Salicylic acid is considered to be on the WHO's model list for
essential medicines. FTW salicylic acid is a sort of medicine that is
added in your daily regime products like facewashes, toners and lotions. you
can also find it in many of acne treatments. In above picture you can see a few
of the products that contain this acid.
As we all know that acne happens because
of excessive sebum. sebum is a byproduct of skin which is actually meant to do
good for your skin but too much of it can cause havoc resulting in skin problems
like black head white heads and acne. This excessive oil sets in your pores
giving bacterial a good feed to live hence the zits.
a regular face wash might not be able to
unclog pores from depth, but salicylic acid aids your regular face wash to deep
clean the pores and thus cleaning the
bacterial built-up. Salicylic acid should not be mistaken as an antibiotic it
does not kill bacteria it simply washes away its feed. So any salicylic acid
product you add to your regime is to be used regularly . it may not clear up
acne but it prevents further breakout. Most brands have 2% salicylic acid which
is a safe zone for beginners.
You might not need a prescription as they
are considered OTC. If you are allergic to this acid or if it’s not working for
you then you may consult a doctor.
There are a bit of drawbacks if salicylic
acid is excessively used or used without a need for it. it may dry your skin or
may cause rashes.
Salicylic lotions are prescribed for treatments
of warts and callus. A wart takes up to 12 weeks with salicylic acid
applied to affected area 2 times a day. Where callus takes 2 weeks to get
better.
psoriasis (a condition causing skin cells
to build up on skin dry skin patches and scales) can also be treated with this
magic potion.
To conclude, salicylic acid is a something all acne sufferers
should give a try to with is benefits outnumbering the cons. my personal experience
have been very good, my acne has faded with time. With the help of Neutrogena
oil free acne wash. i don’t use any other topical treatment just this face wash
.
